AI Model Guide
What each model is, what it's best at, and how they compare — in plain language.
AscendSync Code lets you choose from 10 AI models made by 8 different companies. Think of them like specialists on a team: some are deep thinkers for hard strategy, some are fast and inexpensive for quick questions, and some shine at long documents or multiple languages. You can switch models any time from the dropdown at the top of the chat — your conversation carries over.
Not sure which to pick? Start with the default. If an answer feels shallow, switch to a higher-reasoning model. If you're doing lots of quick, simple tasks, a lower-cost model will be faster and cheaper.
Already use ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini? Here's how they map
If you've used another AI assistant, you've probably already used one of these model families — just inside a different app. Here's the closest match in our lineup.
| Tool you know | Closest model here | Why |
| ChatGPT by OpenAI | GPT-5.5 · GPT-5.5 Pro | The same family that powers ChatGPT. GPT-5.5 matches the standard experience; Pro is the deeper, slower ‘thinking’ tier for hard problems. |
| Microsoft Copilot by Microsoft | GPT-5.5 | Copilot is a Microsoft product, but under the hood it runs on OpenAI's GPT models. So if you're used to Copilot, GPT-5.5 will feel the most familiar — not Microsoft Phi-4, which is Microsoft's own smaller, budget model. |
| Claude by Anthropic | Claude Sonnet 4.6 · Claude Opus 4.8 | The same models you'd use on claude.ai — Sonnet for balanced everyday work, Opus for the heaviest reasoning and long-form writing. |
| Gemini by Google | Gemini 3.1 Pro | The same family as Google's Gemini app — especially handy for long documents and images. |
| Grok by xAI | Grok 4.3 | The same model behind Grok on X — strong on real-time, current-events questions. |
| Meta AI by Meta | Llama 4 Maverick | Built on Meta's open Llama models — a low-cost, capable all-rounder. |
Reasoning power
How deeply a model thinks through complex, multi-step problems. Levels: Basic → Standard → Strong → Advanced → Frontier. More reasoning usually means a little slower and more expensive.
Relative cost
Roughly how expensive a model is per message. Fewer dollar signs = cheaper. Most everyday questions cost a fraction of a cent regardless of model. Levels: $ Very low → $ Low → $$ Mid → $$ High → $$$ Premium.

Cost is a relative guide, not a bill — most everyday questions cost a fraction of a cent. Ratings are AscendSync's own estimates and may change as providers update pricing and models.
